After the match, team coach Gary Steed has said that the captain may miss a few matches due to an elbow injury. Steed has said Williamson's failure to attend the practice match is being done to take precautions. New Zealand is scheduled to play their first match of the World Cup against Pakistan on October 26. Williamson was injured while playing in IPL-2021.

Coach Steed has said that we are keeping an eye on his injury. The media quoted New Zealand as saying, 'Williamson's non-batting against England was a careful decision. We are all hoping and we believe that if we do all the things right then we create the necessary balance, then they should play. There is always a possibility of them dropping some matches.'
