Kabul:The Taliban had promised women freedom of work after Afghanistan came to power, but now, given the way religious guidelines are being issued by it once again, the organization seems to have maintained its old tradition. In fact, the Taliban administration on Sunday issued new 'Islamic religious guidelines', according to which women actresses cannot be shown in serials or daily soaps on television channels in the country.
The Taliban has also ordered the closure of the telecast of all the old serials made with the woman actress. The Taliban decree also says that women TV journalists should wear hijab while anchoring. The Ministry also asked the channels not to telecast films or programmes depicting prophet Mohammed or other dignitaries. The Taliban Ministry called for a ban on films or programmes that are against Islamic and Afghan values. Ministry spokesperson Hakim Mohjir told the media that these are not rules but religious guidelines.
The new guidelines were circulated extensively on social media networks late Sunday night. The Taliban have already imposed rules on what women can and can't wear in universities. At the same time, despite promising to maintain press freedom, many Afghan journalists were beaten and harassed by the Taliban.
