Dehradun: Taliban's strength over Afghanistan continues to grow, turning the country into a very fierce place for women once again. After the latest coup, the Taliban has now occupied power. According to reports, Sher Mohammed Abbas Stanikzai, one of the 7 most powerful Taliban leaders, was once a gentleman cadet at ima in Dehradun. His friends of the 1982 batch of IMA named 60-year-old Stanikzai 'Sheru'.

His friends in that batch of IMA say that the Stanikzai was of a strong body and was not very long. Moreover, he was not even a staunchly religious man. Stanikzai was 20 years old when he came to IMA with 45 gentleman cadets at The Karen Company in Bhagat Battalion. Retired Major General DA Chaturvedi was his batchmate. "He was liked by everyone. He seemed a little older than the other cadet of the academy. He had a rough mustache. His views were not hardcore at that time. He was like an average Afghan cadet who was happy to be here.''

Retired Major General Chaturvedi has received the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, The Most Distinguished Service Medal, and the Sena Medal. Tell you that foreign cadets have been getting admission in IMA since independence. Afghan cadets were getting this facility since 1971 after the Indo-Pak war. The Stationisai was a direct recruit of the Afghan National Defence and Security Forces. Retired Colonel Kesar Singh Shekhawat said, "He was a common youth. I remember once we went to Rishikesh to bathe in the Ganga. There is a picture of the day in which Sheru is wearing a swimming costume of IMA. He was a very good-natured man.''
