Chennai: The government of Tamil Nadu will pass a resolution in the state assembly today, April 10 to urge the President and the Centre to give the Governor prompt, appropriate instructions to approve the Bills sent to him after being passed in the assembly. This is in the midst of an ongoing dispute between the governor, RN Ravi, and the MK Stalin-led state government.

Earlier this month, Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi explained the role of the Governor in the Constitution and mentioned that he has the choice to give assent or withhold the Bill passed by the Assembly, with the latter signifying that the "Bill is dead." He made these comments while speaking with candidates for the civil service. The Governor said that "withholding" is a "decent language" used for the Bill to get rejected. He said,  the Constitution clearly outlines the governor's duty to uphold the Constitution.

He said that if the Bill does not "transgress the Constitutional limit" and the state government does not "beyond its competence," the Governor will consider it.

Last month CM Stalin slammed Governor Ravi when he sent back the bill banning online gambling four months after the State legislature had approved it. several posters against Tamil Nadu governor R N Ravi asking him to 'get out' were spotted across Chennai on Saturday after his "Bill is dead" remark.

MK Stalin, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, criticised the governor and claimed that he "escaped" from his responsibilities and failed to assent to 14 bills.

"Governor by evading his administrative responsibilities and roles, he didn't provide approval to fourteen papers, such as bills, ordinances, and acts, which were introduced by people representatives who were all chosen by millions of voters," Stalin said in a statement.

Said the Chief Minister: "This demonstrates both complete obstruction and duty neglect on the part of the governor. If we apply constant pressure, the governor may return the bill, believing that his role is done, for God's sake, by seeking clarity."

P Chidambaram, a former finance minister and veteran of the Congress, criticised Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi for making the remark and declared that it meant "Parliamentary Democracy is gone."
