Guwahati: An incident of mob lynching has surfaced in Assam. Workers working in a tea garden in Jorhat district of Assam were beaten to death. The incident took place at Tiok Chai Bagan in Jorhat district. The mob alleges that his partner died while undergoing treatment at the Tea Garden hospital. Due to this, the people beat up the 73-year-old doctor together. The doctor died during treatment.

On receiving the information, the police team reached the scene and saved the doctor from the crowd and admitted him to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital, where he died during treatment. Jorhat district Deputy Commissioner RA Koraati said, after the death of Somra Majhi, 73-year-old doctor Deben Dutta was allegedly beaten up by his comrades which led to his death.

Majhi was undergoing treatment at the hospital in Bagan. He said that a magistrate inquiry has been ordered in the matter and the Additional Deputy Commissioner has been asked to present the report in seven days. The matter is currently under investigation. Police have so far arrested 21 people in the case. In this entire incident, the doctors have announced to go on a 24-hour strike across the state from tomorrow i.e. September 3 against opposing the murder of the doctor.
