The first match of the three-match ODI series between India and South Africa will be played at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala. Host India will not get the services of their opener, Rohit Sharma, in this series. Rohit is still recovering from injury. He was hurt during the T20 series with New Zealand. With the absence of Rohit, captain Virat Kohli will have an extra batting load. Kohli had failed on the New Zealand tour. Due to his failure, India had to face defeat in the Kiwi team in ODIs and Tests.

Lokesh Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, who made a place in the team as wicketkeeper batsmen from the opener, were in excellent form on the New Zealand tour. Now they will have the opportunity to perform well in this series. In Rohit's absence, either Prithvi Shaw and Shubman Gill can start the innings with Shikhar Dhawan.
