HYDERABAD: The Telangana Congress party filed charges against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday for making insulting remarks about Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. At various police stations across the state, Congress leaders filed complaints against Sarma, demanding his arrest.

Revanth Reddy, the state Congress head, and other officials filed a case against the Assam chief minister at Jubilee Hills police station for his offensive remarks. He asked that the police file a criminal complaint against Sarma and place him under arrest.

The Congress lawmakers demanded that the Assam chief minister be charged under sections 153A and 505 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for inciting hatred between different groups.

Sarma's statements, according to Revanth Reddy, are an affront to every woman's motherhood. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP President J.P. Nadda, he argued, should respond promptly and dismiss Sarma.

Senior leaders Mohammed Ali Shabbir, Anjan Kumar Yadav, Sampath Kumar, and others followed Reddy, who is also a member of Parliament.

The police just sent an acknowledgement, according to the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee's president. He suggested that the police file a First Information Report (FIR) and pursue criminal charges against Sarma.
