Hyderabad: K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), the Chief Minister of Telangana, will not attend the joint meeting of Chief Ministers and Chief Justices of High Courts, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate on April 30 in Delhi.
According to official sources, KCR has decided to skip the two-day meeting and has delegated attendance to law minister A. Indrakaran Reddy, who will be headed by Chief Justice of India Justice N.V. Ramana. KCR also missed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's video call with chief ministers on Wednesday to discuss the Covid situation since he was preoccupied with the TRS plenary. For the last year, Rao has avoided meetings and video conferences called by Modi, as the TRS and BJP have been locked in a vicious political war since the Huzurabad Assembly by-election and the paddy procurement crisis.
After a six-year hiatus, the next conference will take place. The latest one took place on April 24, 2016. The conference serves as a forum for discussing the difficulties that the judiciary faces. The programme of conference is likely to include topics such as expedited justice, reduced lawsuit pending time, and increased judicial vacancies.
Modi had arranged two video conferences with CMs earlier in January, one to evaluate the Covid issue and the other to discuss 'aspirational regions.' Rao did not attend either of the meetings.
KCR, citing 'sickness,' did not greet Modi when he came to Hyderabad on February 5 to dedicate the Statue of Equality at the Chinna Jeeyar Swamy ashram.
