MUMBAI: Sachin Tendulkar will soon assume the prestigious role of "Smile Ambassador" for Maharashtra's Swachh Mukh Abhiyan (SMA), a programme intended to encourage oral hygiene among all residents of the state.

Eknath Shinde, the chief minister of Maharashtra, and Devendra Fadnavis, his deputy, will be present to officially sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the cricketing legend.

The Indian Dental Association (IDA) launched a countrywide campaign, which includes the Swachh Mukh Abhiyan, also known as SMA. This comprehensive campaign aims to improve oral health and hygiene habits among Indian citizens while disseminating important information about the value of practising excellent oral hygiene.

The Swachh Mukh Abhiyan highlights 5 key fundamental messages that serve as the foundation of maintaining a healthy mouth. These essential practices are significant in our quest for oral well-being:

Brushing your teeth properly twice a day is essential. Use fluoride toothpaste to brush your teeth thoroughly in the morning and at night. This straightforward yet essential habit aids in removing plaque and guards against tooth decay.

Mouthwashing after Consumption: It is advised to rinse your mouth with water after eating or drinking. By removing food residue and lowering the chance of plaque accumulation, this practise helps to keep the mouth clean.

Adopting a nutritious diet is essential for maintaining good oral health. A and C-rich foods should be consumed to help prevent gum disease. The consumption of sugary meals and beverages should also be kept to a minimum because too much of it might cause tooth decay.

Avoiding tobacco products: Smokeless tobacco and cigarettes can seriously endanger dental health. It is well recognised that these dangerous compounds raise the chance of developing oral cancer and gum disease. Avoiding tobacco products is essential for sustaining oral health and general well-being.

Regular dental checkups: It's strongly advised to schedule regular trips to the dentist at least twice a year. Early identification of gum disease and dental cavities is made possible by routine dental exams and cleanings. These checkups operate as a preventative strategy to guarantee ideal oral health.
