Tesla is one of the most valuable firms on the planet right now. The stocks of the US electric car manufacturer are followed closely by investors. Back in 2008, though, the situation was not quite as dire.
When Pranay Pathole, an Indian engineer living in Pune, posted about it on Twitter, Tesla CEO Elon Musk responded quickly. The 23-year-old Indian engineer posted on Twitter that when Tesla's fundraising round closed on Christmas Eve 2008, the firm was only days away from bankruptcy. That was a very difficult year. Tesla's funding ended at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve, the last hour of the last day. Otherwise, payroll would have bounced two days after Christmas.
This isn't the first time Tesla has been on the verge of going bankrupt. Also, this isn't the first time the Tesla CEO has spoken openly about the EV company's probable bankruptcy. Musk warned earlier this year that the carmaker was on the verge of declaring for bankruptcy as it struggled to get its bestselling electric car, the Tesla Model 3 tiny sedan, to market. He claimed that the Tesla Model 3 sedan's development process was excruciatingly stressful and painful for a long time, between January 2017 and mid-2019. He also stated that the manufacturer was going through a manufacturing and logistical nightmare.
The electric carmaker was in significant financial difficulty as losses grew and it battled to meet key production targets for the Model 3 sedan, which quickly became the brand's best-selling model.
