SHIMLA:  Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur visited Bal School in Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, on Tuesday and virtually launched rainwater harvesting in 61 Government Senior Secondary Schools.

"A rainwater harvesting programme has been begun in 61 schools starting today," the Minister added, "under which children and youth will be taught about the importance of water, how to harvest rainwater, and how to make it safe and clean for use." He urged the children to help make the initiative a success.

The initiative will be run by the ICI Foundation.  Instead of 61 locations, the rainwater collection initiative would be implemented in 75 locations in the coming days as part of Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsava, he said.

Anurag Thakur is the Member of Parliament for Hamirpur, his home seat.
