‘Thal Sena Bhawan’: New Indian Army Headquarters set ready by 2025

NEW DELHI: The new Indian Army headquarters, under the title  ‘Thal Sena Bhawan’ which is under construction, is expected to be ready by 2025. The forty acres of headquarters is being constructed in the Delhi Cantonment area.

As per the Defence Ministry, the Indian Army headquarters will be inspired by the Indian Army logo. The Army headquarters is being built in consonant with the vision of India Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the redevelopment of Central Vista. The Thal Sena Bhawan has been conceptualized as a multi-story green building, built by adopting the Green Rating for Integrated Housing Assessment Criteria. It is reported that the building with be approximately 6 to 7 floors. 

The headquarters will include a sizable gymnasium in keeping with the idea of contemporary offices for Army leaders. A separate ceremonial promenade for different events will be present at the Thal Sena Bhawan, along with a garden for enjoyment and celebration. 

Notably, the Army headquarters will have an earthquake-resistant design life of 100 years. Around 5,600 army soldiers would be able to be accommodated in the structure. Along with basic facilities, the structure will include offices and a housing complex for security employees.

A gym and a main library will also be located in the new army headquarters. The Bhawan, an iconic structure, will house the many Army headquarters offices that are currently dispersed throughout Delhi.

Earlier in February 2020, Rajnath Singh, the defence minister, lay the foundation for the development of this new structure.
