New Delhi: Swarnim Vijay Diwas -  On the occasion of Swarnim Vijay Diwas on Thursday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh paid tribute to the armed services' bravery and sacrifice during the 1971 war, calling it a "golden chapter in India's military history." The Defence Minister took to Twitter to say, "We recall the courage and sacrifice of our armed forces during the 1971 war on the occasion of 'Swarnim Vijay Diwas.' The 1971 conflict is seen as a watershed moment in Indian military history. We are proud of our military and their accomplishments." "This day, that year!" he wrote with a photo of "Instrument of Surrender."

Swarnim Vijay Varsh marks the 50th anniversary of India's victory in the 1971 war and the establishment of Bangladesh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi lit the Swarnim Vijay Mashaal from the Eternal Flame at the National War Memorial last December 16th.  "This day, that year!" he wrote with a photo of "Instrument of Surrender."
