Hyderabad : The Telangana government on Wednesday announced that it has decided to revive the Arogyasree scheme in the state with the Aayushman Bharat scheme at the central.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has been decided to merge the two schemes, the Chief Secretary said Somesh Kumar. It is best to note that the Arogyasree scheme is broader than Ayushman India and the decision taken by the state government is surprising.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has criticized the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government for not implementing Ayushman Bharat. Party president JP Nadda has targeted the state government for denying the people of Telangana the benefits of Aayushman Bharat, which offers health coverage of Rs 5 lakh.

Chandrasekhar Rao, who dismissed Aayushman Bharat in favor of a health and medical cover scheme for the poor, told the assembly last year that the state government was not interested in wasting public money on central schemes that would benefit the people.

When presenting the state budget, KCR said that Arogyasree was more beneficial and had a broader scope than the Aayushman Bharat scheme, with the government spending Rs 1,336 crore a year to help 85.34 lakh families.

He said with Ayushman Bharat, the state could provide only Rs 250 crore a year in medical benefits and only 26 lakh families would benefit.

Through Aaroshshree, the state government is expanding free services related to 25 different organ transplant procedures not available under the Aayushman Bharat scheme, KCR said.

The Prime Minister on Wednesday held a video conference with the Chief Secretaries of all the states to review the progress of various infrastructure projects, such as the Aayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jana Arogya Yojana and the Jal Jeevan Mission. Safe tap water is provided. The Center has agreed to provide clean drinking water to 98.5 per cent of households in Telangana.
