Jammu: Today we are going to tell you about one of the brave son of India who said, "Even if death comes in the way of my duty, I swear that I will defeat death also". These lines are narrated in the diary of a 24-year-old Indian army personnel whose bravery is still narrated today. Even though these words  inked on these pages have been erased by the time, the lessons of bravery and courage taught by this young man will be an inspiration for the people till the existence of India and will continue to give crores of Indians the courage to do something for the country. In fact, we are talking about Manoj Pandey who was martyred in the 1999 Kargil war between India and Pakistan. He was born on June 25, 1974 in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh.

Don't be afraid of death:-
Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, one of the top officers of the Indian Army, used to say that if someone told you that he was not afraid of death, you should understand either he is lying or he is Gorkha. Manoj Pandey, who sacrificed himself for the country in Kargil war was part of the Gorkha Regiment, who also defeated death until he fulfilled his purpose.

On his way back from Siachen, he called for Kargil:-
Manoj, who was part of the battalion, was returning to Siachen after completing his three-month term when he was ordered to move towards Kargil. The Indian Army was surrounded in kargil by the enemies. Pakistanis were at heights. We were down. Khalubar was a strategically important area. It was also a kind of 'communication hub' for enemies. Two companies of Gorkha Rifles were selected for the attack. The speed of machine gun bullets from Pakistanis was 2900 feet per second.
