Bangalore: Government College in Udupi, Karnataka from where the entire hijab controversy started. The full name of this college is Govt Pre University College For Girls. In which studies are done from 8th to 12th. In Karnataka class 11th and 12th are considered as Pre University. From this college, this dispute has spread earlier to Karnataka and now to many states. This matter has now reached the High Court and the Supreme Court as well. Talking to the media, Udupi Government College principal Rudra Gowda told that the controversy started after December 27 last year and he believes some student organizations to be behind instigating it. The principal even said that now seeing him, it does not seem that these girl students belong to his college.

When the principal was asked whether on December 31, some girl students had asked him for permission to come wearing a hijab. To this the principal replied that yes it had happened and had told the girl students that they had informed the higher authorities and they would have to come without the hijab till their reply came. The principal told that on December 27, he had persuaded 12 girl students who had demanded to come wearing hijab and they went to class peacefully. Only four girls were unwilling to come without hijab and they were accompanied by lawyers and leaders of the student body CFI. Did the college try to talk to the CFI? On this, the principal said that the college had taken a clear stand that talks would not be held with the CFI and an effort would be made to convince the girl students by talking to their families.

The principal was asked whether hijab is banned in the college for the last two years? To this he replied that hijab is not a part of the dress in the college for the last 35 years. Girls are allowed to wear hijab till class, but during class studies all girl students sit in uniform and without hijab. But after December 27, four girls said that they would wear the hijab even during the study hours. The principal also told that the parents of the girl students agree with him (of the college management) and want the college administration to explain to their daughters. The principal said that we have told those parents that they should convince them because if the girls do not listen to them, then whom will they listen to. And if so, then they have definitely come in the talk of outsiders. The principal said that even the girl students have been affected by the CFI and other radical organizations at this time.
