Ahmedabad: Social media has become an integral part of our daily routine. The hashtag (#) is also in trend. Everybody posts social media especially on Twitter with hashtag to express their feelings. Any discussion using the hashtag comes into trend. Today we are going to introduce you to the person who created the hashtag.

Chris Messina invented the hashtag 12 years ago. Messina did not even imagine that the hashtag would be used so widely on social media. In an interview in Ahmedabad in Gujarat, Messina said that he used this sign thinking that people can be connected to the online network. Messina says that the idea behind the hashtag was that if a discussion started online, other people could also join it.

However, he has expressed concerns about the use of social media. He is worried that people have reduced the chance to meet in real life and started talking on social media. Messina said the next big thing on the Internet would be "voice-based usage" rather than typing or using on the touch screen.
