Thiruvanadapuram On YouTube, the trailer for the film The Kerala Story has been changed to say that it covers the "true stories of three young girls from different parts of Kerala." The original trailer for the film stated that 32,000 women from Kerala had joined ISIS. Shashi Tharoor, a member of parliament from Kerala who had previously disputed the 32,000 figure, has attacked the film's creators for "gross exaggeration and distortion of the reality of Kerala."

Following the allegations made in the original trailer, Kerala's political parties—both those in power and those in opposition—called for a screening ban. A prize of Rs. 1 crore was given by the youth section of the Indian Union Muslim League for information showing that 32,000 women from Kerala had joined ISIS.

A Hindu seva kendra founder responded by offering Rs. 10 crore to demonstrate that no Keralan women had joined ISIS. C Shukkur, a lawyer and actor, also offered a reward of Rs. 11 lakh to anyone who could name at least 32 Kerala women who had joined ISIS. The uproar has not subsided despite the movie's new description.

Three young girls from Kerala are featured in the Sunshine Pictures-produced movie. The initial trailer, however, stated that the movie told the "gut-wrenching and heart-breaking stories of 32,000 females in Kerala."

Earlier, Tharoor disputed this number, pointing out that less than 100 Indians had joined ISIS, according to Western intelligence sources. The film's creators responded by updating the YouTube trailer, replacing the 32,000 figure with "true stories of three young girls from different parts of Kerala."

The assertions made in the movie sparked a political debate in Kerala, where both the CPM-led LDF in power and the UDF in opposition demanded that the movie not be allowed to be released. The youth wing of the Indian Union Muslim League offered a prize for information regarding the 32,000 women who had joined ISIS.

A founder of a Hindu seva kendra responded to this offer by offering a reward for information showing that no Keralan women had joined ISIS. C Shukkur, a lawyer and performer, also extended a similar invitation.

The plot thickens, Tharoor tweeted in response to the altered movie trailer. '3 ladies' has been substituted with '32,000 women' in the movie's YouTube description, which has been modified by the creators. I've made my case. Release day for Adah Sharma's film The Kerala Story is slated for May 5.
