Lucknow: A candidate contesting the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections has fallen victim to a honey trap in the capital Lucknow and has now lodged a complaint with the nearest police station. After registering a case, the police are now investigating it. According to reports, the aggrieved candidate is contesting as an independent from the Madhavgarh assembly seat in Jaunpur and has a residence in the Vibhuti block of Lucknow. It is alleged that a girl made a video call to him and when he picked up the call, after some time, the girl started talking indecently.

In his complaint, he has said that after cutting the phone, an obscene photo appeared on his phone, after which the girl started blackmailing the assembly candidate. However, after this, the candidate has lodged a complaint with Vibhuti Khand police station. Regarding the case, police officer Qasim Abdi said that an independent candidate from the Madhavgarh assembly constituency of Jaunpur has lodged a complaint. He had received a video call from a number after which the girl started talking indecently. Through the obscene photo that has come to him, an attempt was made to blackmail him and money was demanded from him.

The same police said that a case has been registered on the complaint of the victim and further legal action is being taken. In the sixth phase of the Upazila assembly elections, 676 candidates are in the fray in 57 seats spread over 10 districts. Voting is scheduled for March 3. In this phase, CM Yogi Adityanath himself has also entered the electoral fray from the Gorakhpur seat. At the same time, a dozen seats are being contested by their close ones. In such a situation, Yogi's credibility is at stake in this political struggle of Purvanchal.
