Ranchi: An SPO was abducted and killed and the body was hanged from a tree in Hathnabeda forest during the Vishwakarma Puja immersion procession in the Naxal-affected Jatia of West Singhbhum, Jharkhand. On the news of the people of the village, the body hanging from the tree in the forest was recovered by the Jatia police on Monday morning. The incident took place in Hathnabeda village under the Jatiya police station area on Sunday night. Kartik Nayak was a resident of Hathnabeda village and was posted as SPO in the Jatiya police station. At present, the police are describing the incident as a mutual rivalry.

People of Hathnabeda village said that some people went to cut wood in the forest and found the body of a villager hanging from the tree. He informed Munda Ram Purti of the village and he informed Jatiya police station in-charge Vipin Mahato. On the news of Munda, the police station in-charge Vipin Mahato as well as Jagannathpur SDPO Ikud Dungdung also reached the spot and investigated. According to the police, Kartik was beaten to death with a stick and the body was hanged from a tree in a mutual dispute. His secret organ was also cut off. There is an atmosphere of fear in the village after the incident.

People of the village said that on Sunday, Kartik Nayak was involved in the immersion procession of Vishwakarma Puja. At the time of the procession, Kartik was abducted and beaten to death by unidentified persons. After the murder, the body was hanged from a tree in the Hathnabeda forest. At present, the police have taken the body into custody and sent it to Chaibasa for post-mortem. Ekud Dungdung, SDPO of Jagannathpur in West Singhbhum, said it was not a Naxal incident. The murder has been done due to mutual enmity, the rest of the information will be available only after the post-mortem.
