A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking implementation of the 2-child policy in view of the alarming population in the country. It is requesting all States and Union Territories to be parties and take measures for population control in the country. Bjp leader and senior advocate Ashwini Upadhyay in her petition had requested for a rule to have only 2 children in the country. Ashwani Upadhyay in her petition said that the explosion of population is the leading cause of problems in the country.

Pressure on natural resources: Where it has been found that natural resources are being put under pressure due to increasing population. Upadhyay has earlier filed an application in the Delhi High Court seeking implementation of the two-child policy but the high court refused to hear it.

Centre not ready to impose family planning: According to the information received, cases are registered in the Supreme Court in the past also over population control measures. Last time, amid the hearing of one such case, the Central Government had said in the Supreme Court that it would not be right to impose family planning on the people in India. The opposite effect is visible. There may be a change in the demography of the country. 

Our population is more than China?: The petition further says that the Delhi High Court has managed to strengthen Article 21 of the Constitution guaranteeing the right to clean air, drinking water, health, peaceful sleep, shelter, livelihood and security. Due to population explosion, they are completing some work of protecting these rights. The petition filed in the high court claimed that India had surpassed China in the population case.
