Kabul: Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has fled the country and the Taliban has taken control of the entire country, including Rashtrapati Bhavan. However, the Taliban have not yet appointed their representative, who held the helm of Afghanistan's power. Meanwhile, former Afghan Vice President Amrullah Saleh has declared himself a 'legitimate acting president.'
Releasing an audio statement, Amrullah Saleh said, 'According to the Constitution of Afghanistan, if the President remains non-present, flees, resigns or is unable to perform his duties, the First Vice President automatically becomes the legitimate acting President. Now that Ashraf Ghani has fled the country, he effectively relinquished his responsibilities and the presidency is vacant, so I am currently a legitimate President who looks after Afghanistan because I am within the country. I am reaching out to all the leaders of Afghanistan.'
Amrullah Saleh further said in his statement, 'I want to make it clear that there are many factors for this situation, but I am not ready to be a part of the humiliation that foreign forces suffered. I stand for and for my country and the war is not over yet.'
