Anand: A 54-year-old woman lost her life after being run over by the Vande Bharat train in Gujarat's Anand on Tuesday. The woman has been identified as Beatrice Archibald Peter, railway police said. It is being said that when she was crossing the track near Anand railway station, she met with an accident at around 4:37 pm.
Peter, who lives in Ahmedabad, had gone to meet a relative in Anand, the railway official said. The train was on its way to Mumbai Central from Gandhinagar. Vande Bharat does not stop at Anand railway station. Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the inauguration of the train from Gandhinagar station on September 30. This is the fourth accident from the Vande Bharat train. Earlier in September, this train met with an accident due to a collision of cattle three times. On October 6, its front panel was damaged when it collided with a herd of four buffaloes between Vatva and Maninagar railway stations. On October 7, the train hit a cow near Anand. In another case, a bull was hit by a train near Atul railway station in Gujarat.
Railways have taken major action in the past to prevent incidents of cattle colliding with Vande Bharat trains. After the incident with Vande Bharat running between Mumbai and Gandhinagar, the Mumbai division of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has written a letter to the sarpanches of many nearby villages settled on this route. The letter asked sarpanches to keep their cattle under control. Cattle should not be allowed to wander around the Vande Bharat train corridor. If the owners do not take care of their cattle, action will also be taken against them. Due to this train equipped with modern facilities, the distance between Ahmedabad and Mumbai can be reduced from 8 hours to 5 and a half hours.
