The Fukuoka World Swimming Championships have been postponed for the second time due to the coronavirus pandemic. On Tuesday, the organizers officially confirmed this. The tournament is now scheduled to be held in Japan in 2023. A statement issued by world swimming governing body FINA said that Fukuoka is scheduled to host the championships every two years from July 14-30 in place of May.

The 19th season of the tournament was first scheduled to be held in Fukuoka, Japan, in July 2021, but has since been postponed due to the COVID pandemic and the delay in the Tokyo Olympics.

Fukuoka first hosted the World Swimming Championships in 2001 and the opening date was first started as a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the event. Due to the delay for the second time, the 2023 World Championships in Doha, Qatar will also now have to be held in January 2024 with a delay of two months.
