NEW DELHI: Representatives of Big Technology entities such as  Amazon, Google, Netflix and Microsoft, among others, have been summoned by the Parliamentary Standing Committee of Finance on Tuesday to depose on the subject of anti-competitive practices by tech companies.

The panel, which is led by BJP MP and former Union minister Jayant Sinha, will meet on Tuesday to discuss the issue, which has recently drawn a lot of attention, according to official sources. The committee has also called officials from cab and hotel aggregators like Ola and Oyo as well as e-commerce companies like Flipkart to discuss the issue.

The summit will take place at a time when major participants in the technological and digital industries are under fire for allegedly engaging in unfair trade practises and other anti-competitive tactics.

The Parliamentary panel's decision to call representatives of Big Techs is consistent with its prior discussions on the subject, which centred on competitive behaviour in the digital market arena.

The panel has already discussed the issue with the Competition Commission of India (CCI) authorities and with representatives of Indian tech companies.
