After 2 years, Deepika is going to get extra inspiration from the Olympics to be held at the same venue. This Indian archer has also won a silver medal in the World Cup final here in 2013. After returning empty-handed from their third Olympics last year, Deepika and her husband and country's top male archer Atanu Das had a dip in form and failed to make it to the Indian team. Both of them could not even make it to the Asian Games team and later these games were also postponed.
After which the Archery Association of India (AAI) conducted re-trials among the top 8 shooters for the third phase of the World Cup. Earlier, the same team was to participate in both the Asian Games and the World Cup stage three, but after the postponement of the Asian Games, Deepika and Praveen Jadhav, who was in the top eight in the earlier trials, have also got another chance to make it into the team. . Das, however, was not a part of the latest trial as he could not make it to the top 8 in the earlier trials.
