Shimla: An under-construction bridge collapsed on Thursday night in Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh. This bridge, being built at a cost of 2.42 crores, broke in the middle before it was completed. Fortunately, no labourers were present on the bridge at the time of the accident. The 75-meter-long bridge has been under construction since 2021 and was scheduled to be finished soon.
Reports say that three slabs of the bridge being constructed on Kot Jahu Road in Hamirpur were kept. An official has said in this regard that the shuttering of a slab collapsed just hours after it was removed. A cost of Rs 2.42 crore was also incurred in the construction of this 75-metre-long bridge.
Assistant Engineer of Public Works Department Anil Kumar has said that senior officials have inspected the bridge and that orders have also been issued to remove the flaws found. The superintendant engineer, Vijay Chowdhary, has said that a report has been sought from the executive engineer. The contract for the construction of the bridge was awarded in 2020. Its construction began the following year. The government has given 35 percent of the cost to the contractor.
