Thousands of devotees gather at Kheer Bhawani Mela even after target killing

Srinagar: The faith in the terror these days in the Kashmir Valley is overwhelming. Around 18,000 Kashmiri Pandits have been estimated to gather at the world famous Kheer Bhavani temple fair to be held in Ganderbal. These figures have been given by the Union Home Ministry. It is reported that about 18,000 Kashmiri Pandits and devotees have worshipped their revered deity on the occasion of Jyestha Ashtami at Mata Kheer Bhavani temple in Ganderbal, Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.

In fact, Kheer Bhavani Mela is organized every year at Mata Kheer Bhavani Temple in Tulmulla, Ganderbal on the occasion of Jyeshtha Ashtami, with devotees from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir visiting the holy shrine. The event has been considered a symbol of communal harmony and brotherhood in the Kashmir Valley for years, but the event could not be held for the last two years due to the pandemic. However, this time due to the incidents of targeted killing of Hindus in Kashmir, tight security arrangements were made here. The Lieutenant Governor of the state himself supervised the entire event. After the fair, the government issued a statement saying that on Jyestha Ashtami, about 18000 Kashmiri Pandits and devotees visited Mata Kheer Bhavani temple. Around 2500 Kashmiri Pandits attended the evening aarti.

Mata Kheer Bhavani is considered to be the goddess of Kashmiri Pandits. In view of the incidents of target killing in Kashmir, Home Minister Amit Shah held a high-level meeting on Tuesday regarding the security arrangements in Kashmir. In this, information was taken regarding the preparations from Amarnath Yatra to Kheer Bhavani Mela. After Amarnath, the Kheer Bhavani temple is the most recognized.
