In a bizarre incident, at least three persons have died in a knife attack on Thursday outside a church in the southern French city of Nice. Officials were reported as saying that a man wielding a knife slit the throat of one person and injured several others. Later reports stated that two more had died, taking the toll to three. Unconfirmed reports said one of the victims, a woman, was decapitated by the attacker. According to the police source information, it says that a woman was feared to have been decapitated in the knife attack.
French far-right politician Marine Le Pen told reporters at the French Parliament in Paris that a "decapitation" had occurred in the attack. The incident occurred in the morning. Police said the suspected assailant was swiftly detained. The police said in an initial statement on Twitter- "There was a knife attack, two people were killed. The suspected attacker was detained,"
French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin tweeted that he has convened a crisis meeting after the attack. The Mayor of Nice described the attack as an act of ‘terrorism’.
