New Delhi: Tihar jail officials have rejected claims made by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) suggesting that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has lost weight since his arrest. They stated that Kejriwal's weight has remained steady at 65 kg.

However, Delhi Minister Atishi countered this, stating that Kejriwal's weight was 69.5 kg on the day he was taken into custody by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED).

According to a statement from Tihar Jail, upon his arrival on April 1, 2024, Kejriwal underwent a medical examination by two doctors, and all his vital signs were normal. The release mentioned that Kejriwal's weight has stayed consistent at 65 kg since he entered Tihar jail. Additionally, it stated that he is receiving home-cooked food as per the court's orders, and all his medical parameters are normal.

Disputing the jail authorities' claims, Atishi argued that Kejriwal's weight was 69.5 kg before his arrest, indicating a loss of 4.5 kg over 12 days.

Earlier, Atishi highlighted Kejriwal's health condition, stating that he suffers from severe diabetes and has lost 4.5 kg since his arrest. She expressed concern over his health, emphasizing Kejriwal's relentless dedication to serving the nation despite his health issues.

Atishi also criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing them of orchestrating Kejriwal's imprisonment. She warned that the BJP is endangering Kejriwal's health by detaining him, suggesting that if anything were to happen to him, the consequences would be grave.

Kejriwal was taken into custody on Monday following the conclusion of his Directorate of Enforcement custodial remand. The ED had implicated him as the central figure in an alleged scam, alleging that he provided evasive responses and concealed pertinent information during the investigation.

This isn't Kejriwal's first stint at Tihar jail; in 2014, he was incarcerated after refusing to post bail of Rs 10,000 in a defamation case filed against him by BJP leader Nitin Gadkari.
