New Delhi: Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha is generally recognized as a promising leader of AAP. But at a time when the party is going through its biggest phase, Raghav is completely missing. He has not been seen in public for a long time. In such a situation, party supporters feel that they are giving a chance to BJP. Those who are following the activities of AAP would know that Raghav Chadha likes to remain in the media headlines. Chadha, AAP's Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab, is one of the party leaders who can be easily contacted. However, at a time when the party is fighting its biggest political crisis ever, Chadha is missing from the picture. There is a lot of confusion among AAP supporters regarding Raghav Chadha's stay away from Delhi and India. Due to which a period of speculation has started and BJP is using this opportunity to its advantage. This is also because Aam Aadmi Party chief and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has been arrested by ED in the liquor scam. Raghav Chaddha maintained complete distance from the media.
Where is Raghav Chaddha?: Raghav Chaddha is currently in London. He also recently had eye surgery. In mid-March, AAP sources had claimed that the specialist in Britain had also advised Chadha to undergo this surgery. Chadha had told through his social media account on March 8 that he had reached London. A day after this, he participated in the London India Forum 2024 organized by the London School of Economics. His wife Parineeti Chopra also participated in this program as a speaker.
Raghav Chadha also went to Westminster Palace with his wife on March 20, where she participated in an event at the House of Commons. Chadha had also shared photos of the invitation letter received by her and Parineeti for this event. During this visit, Raghav also met British MP of Indian origin Preet Kaur Gill. Preet Kaur Gill is being called a Khalistani supporter. This issue was also raised by BJP leaders in India.
On the evening of March 21 in Delhi, Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal was taken into custody by ED in the liquor scam. After Kejriwal's arrest, Chadha had made two tweets. First in Hindi and second in English. In these tweets he had condemned Kejriwal's arrest. Later, he released a video defending Kejriwal and targeting the BJP-led Central Government. After this, he has been sharing Sunita Kejriwal's press conference from his social media account. Along with this, videos of the statements of INDIA alliance leaders supporting Kejriwal and the opposition rally at Ramlila Maidan are shared.
But a person who needs to remain in the news in the media, shares just one video byte for several days after the arrest of his party chief, due to which the market of rumors has become hot. Reports say that but these rumors did not start just like that. Raghav Chadha, who is usually active on social media, has also maintained silence there. He also reduced his media interaction considerably since February and March. It would be important to understand here that this is the same time when ED's grip on Kejriwal is getting tighter. ED was continuously sending summons to Kejriwal and Kejriwal was not appearing before ED. He was also fighting a separate legal battle regarding the ED summons, so an entire army of party spokespersons were busy making strategies and defending Kejriwal. Meanwhile, BJP was continuously attacking Kejriwal and the party needed more and more people who could give a befitting reply to BJP's narrative against the party.
In such a situation, Chadha was not in action during these entire incidents nor did he appear on the public platform to defend Kejriwal. Raghav Chadha's last press conference was held in the last week of January, in which he targeted BJP over rigging in the Chandigarh Mayor elections. He had made only one political tweet on social media in February, in which the decision of the Supreme Court regarding the Chandigarh Mayor election was appreciated. Chadha made only 5 tweets in February and retweeted only one tweet of Kejriwal.
AAP Chief Kejriwal had also completed a press conference regarding the Supreme Court's decision on Chandigarh Mayor elections. This press conference was shared enthusiastically by the party leaders but Raghav Chadha did not share this press conference of Kejriwal. Meanwhile, Raghav Chadha's unusual silence and his visit to London gave BJP leaders an opportunity to target the Aam Aadmi Party. BJP's IT cell chief Amit Malviya, while targeting the picture of Raghav Chadha with British MP Preet Gill, had said that elections have been announced in India. But Raghav Chadha, Arvind Kejriwal's promising leader is in London. Why? Why is Chadha actually in touch with Preet Gill?
Malviya had said about this on March 23 that we came to know through the media that he was in Britain for eye surgery. If so, then what happened to the improvement in health services of Delhi. In such a situation, Chadha's absence in the midst of AAP's biggest political crisis is a major political issue in Punjab also. Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar had raised questions on Chadha's absence. He had said that in this political turbulent environment, the absence of Raghav Chadha raises many questions. The silence of Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann on this has also given weight to these speculations. During this period, when the party was making strategy against Kejriwal's arrest in Delhi, many Aam Aadmi Party leaders were uncomfortable with Chadha's absence.
Before the opposition's Ramlila Ground rally, senior AAP leaders rejected the apprehensions being expressed about Raghav Chadha and also cited eye surgery as the main reason for his absence. Reports say that top AAP leaders Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh and Kejriwal have been taken into custody in the liquor scam. Even the second line leaders of the party were interrogated by the ED. Recently, ED raided the residence of Aam Aadmi Party co-incharge Deepak Singhla and Delhi Cabinet Minister Kailash Gehlot was interrogated. ED has mentioned Raghav Chadha in the liquor scam but he has not been interrogated yet.
