Tirupati: The government elected three leaders from Chittoor district as the chairpersons of the trust boards of Srikalahasti, Kanipakam and Srisailam temples, which are located outside their constituencies. There was a controversy in the ruling YSRCP regarding the appointment of the chairpersons of these trust boards. Finally after a month these appointments were postponed.

The government has appointed 135 leaders to head various corporations and temple trust boards. But the appointments of the chairpersons of the temple trust boards caused quite a stir among various sections, including candidates within the party. And came under the scanner of local legislators.

Earlier, the government had appointed R Chakrapani Reddy, nephew of former minister R Chenga Reddy, as the chairman of the Srisailam Devasthanam Trust Board. He also visited the temple later and returned due to non-issue of GO on his appointment. It is learned that local MLAs and other leaders from Kurnool district have expressed displeasure over the appointment of a non-local leader to head the temple. In the end, the government was forced to reconsider its decision and change the names which could happen anytime soon.
