Kolkata: Mahua Moitra, the newly elected member of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), on Tuesday accused the Narendra Modi government of taking the country towards fascism, claiming that the country is being divided in the name of nationalism and that scientific thinking is being pushed back. Participating in the discussion on the Motion of Thanks on President Ram Nath Kovind's address, Mahua claimed that the country is going through a very difficult phase.

He said the new type of nationalism is being distributed to the public. Moitra said a community specific is being targeted through the NRC and the Citizenship Amendment Bill. TMC MP Mahua Moitra has said that the killing is going on today. The country has been taken to fascism. Scientific thinking has been pushed back.
Mahua said that while this government is worrying about the disputed 2.77 acres of land in Ayodhya, the whole country needs to be concerned. After his address, Nishikant Dubey of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) citing the rules, said Mahua Moitra referred to the NRC and Ayodhya cases which are under consideration in the court. In this case, they should be removed from the record. On this, Saugat a Roy of the TMC said that Dubey and Rajiv Pratap Rudy of the BJP were trying to suppress the voice of the opposition.
