New Delhi: Today is the 106th birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, the voice of the poor and Dalit people and a strong nationalist leader, who was born on this day in 1916. Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya was the co-founder of Bharatiya Jana Sangh (BJS) and ideologue of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).  

What is the purpose of Antyodaya Diwas:-

The birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, one of the prominent personalities in the history of Indian politics, is celebrated as Antyodaya Diwas every year. The word Antyodaya Diwas, which is celebrated every year on his birthday, means upliftment, which is dedicated to the upliftment of economically weaker sections of society. The purpose of this day is to draw attention to the development of the poor and backward people of India. Along with this, this day is also celebrated to remember Upadhyay for his contribution to society and politics.  

How Antyodaya Diwas started:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his first term, had announced to celebrate 'Antyodaya Diwas' on September 25, 2014, on the occasion of the 98th birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, which is being officially celebrated every year since September 25, 2015. Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya was the first to give the slogan of Antyodaya.
