Cairo: On Sunday in Cairo, Ammar Al-Hakim, the leader of the Iraqi Wisdom Movement, met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. The two leaders spoke about important regional issues of shared interest as well as the most recent political developments in Iraq.

El-Sisi expressed his pride in Cairo and Baghdad's friendship during the meeting, as well as his government's support for Iraq's efforts to advance.

El-Sisi also acknowledged Al-Hakim's beneficial contributions to preserving the country's stability.

Al-Hakim also praised El-Sisi's leadership and expressed Iraq's desire to continue fortifying ties with Egypt. He also expressed his nation's gratitude for Egypt's support of Iraq and its eagerness to learn from Egyptian expertise in all areas.

Al-Hakim met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry as well.

The two affirmed their interest in continuing to work together to increase security in the region after discussing a number of regional issues of concern, according to Ahmed Abu Zeid, spokesman for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

Shoukry highlighted the significance Egypt places on the tripartite cooperation mechanism between Egypt, Iraq, and Jordan as a reflection of the countries' shared political will and expressed Egypt's full support for Iraq in its fight against terrorism.

Separately, Al-Hakim stated, in a discussion with specialists from the Egyptian Centre for Strategic Studies, that there are numerous areas in which Egypt and Iraq can cooperate. He cited the significance of regional cooperation as the reason why "Iraq hosted five rounds of talks between Saudi Arabia and Iran, in addition to discussions between other countries."

He continued that despite the difficulties it faced, particularly from terrorist organisations, which are now confined to a few small desert enclaves, Iraq was able to overcome them to a large extent.

According to Al-Hakim, sectarianism in Iraq is political, not social, and certain political forces want to ally themselves with particular sects in order to gain certain advantages.

There has been a "national realisation," he continued, that "there is no way to overcome challenges except through dialogue" that encourages "internal solutions" as opposed to ones "imposed from outside."

He emphasised that the main way to deal with the issues the state is currently facing is to strengthen it.
