Top Three States Leading Charge in Startup Development: DPIIT's 2022 Rankings

Gujarat, Kerala, and Karnataka have secured the top positions in fostering a conducive environment for budding entrepreneurs, as per  the latest rankings released by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). The rankings, unveiled by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, highlight the states and Union territories that have excelled in developing robust startup ecosystems.

In the 2022 rankings, Tamil Nadu and Himachal Pradesh have also been recognized as stellar performers in creating a supportive environment for startups. Maharashtra, Odisha, and Telangana are among the top performers, showcasing their commitment to nurturing entrepreneurship.

The evaluation encompassed a total of 33 states and Union territories, each classified into five categories based on their efforts to boost the startup ecosystem. These categories include best performers, top performers, leaders, aspiring leaders, and emerging startup ecosystems.

Minister Piyush Goyal emphasized the importance of recognizing and appreciating the initiatives undertaken by states to promote and support budding entrepreneurs. The rankings consider the various measures and programs implemented by each region to foster a conducive atmosphere for the growth of startups and innovation.

Gujarat, Kerala, and Karnataka's consistent efforts have positioned them as leaders in providing a nurturing environment for startups. This recognition not only acknowledges their current achievements but also encourages other states to adopt similar strategies to boost their own startup ecosystems.

The rankings serve as a valuable benchmark for states and Union territories to assess their progress in supporting the startup ecosystem. By showcasing successful models and initiatives, the DPIIT rankings aim to inspire a nationwide culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, ultimately contributing to India's economic growth.
