Leh: Nine soldiers lost their lives, and another is in critical condition after their Army vehicle veered off the road and fell into a deep gorge near Kiari in southern Ladakh’s Nyoma. The unfortunate incident occurred while the vehicle, carrying a total of 10 personnel, was en route from Leh to Nyoma. The driver lost control of the vehicle at around 4:45 pm, resulting in the tragic accident.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Leh, P D Nitya, reported that a prompt response was made by a police team to the accident site. The injured soldiers were immediately transferred to an Army medical facility. Unfortunately, eight soldiers were pronounced dead upon arrival, while another soldier succumbed to injuries later. A tenth soldier is currently receiving critical medical care.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed his condolences for the lives lost, praising the exemplary service rendered by the Indian Army personnel. He acknowledged their contributions and extended heartfelt sympathies to the grieving families. Singh also wished a swift recovery for the injured soldier. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also mourned the tragic incident and the loss of the valiant soldiers. Shah conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved families and assured the nation's solidarity during this sorrowful time. He hoped for the prompt recovery of the injured personnel.
