Cairo: A tragic accident occurred on a foggy Saturday morning along the highway connecting Cairo and Alexandria, resulting in a multi-vehicle pileup. The crash involved a passenger bus colliding with a parked vehicle and resulted in a devastating loss of life, with at least 32 individuals losing their lives. Additionally, it left approximately 63 people injured, as reported by the Health Ministry. Emergency response teams, including ambulances, swiftly arrived at the scene of the accident on the Cairo-Alexandria desert road to transport the injured to nearby hospitals.

According to local media, the bus was en route to Cairo when it struck the stationary vehicle, triggering a chain reaction of other cars colliding with the bus, and some of them caught fire. Distressing footage shared online depicted multiple vehicles engulfed in flames along the roadside, with firefighters working tirelessly to extinguish the inferno. Reports from the state-run daily al-Ahram indicated that as many as 29 vehicles were involved in this massive collision, which occurred near the town of Nubariya, approximately 160 kilometers (100 miles) north of Cairo.

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority had previously issued a warning about heavy fog on the highways, underscoring the challenging weather conditions. Egypt grapples with a high incidence of deadly traffic accidents, claiming thousands of lives each year. These accidents are often attributed to factors such as excessive speeding, inadequate road infrastructure, and insufficient enforcement of traffic regulations.
