In a devastating incident on NH 20 in Odisha, a vehicle carrying passengers collided with a parked truck, resulting in a catastrophic scene that claimed the lives of 8 individuals. The collision caused the vehicle to shatter into pieces, leaving several others severely injured.

The fatal road mishap occurred in Keonjhar district of Odisha, where 8 people lost their lives and 7 others sustained critical injuries. The incident transpired during the early hours of Friday, December 1st. All the deceased were identified as residents of Digapahandi in Ganjam.

The unfortunate event unfolded as a van transporting 20 individuals from Podamari village was en route to the revered Maa Tarini temple within the district. Tragically, seven individuals lost their lives instantly at the accident site, with another succumbing to injuries during treatment at Ghatgaon Hospital. The severity of the collision was such that the van was completely demolished.

Immediate response teams, including Balijodi police, swiftly arrived at the scene, transporting the injured to the nearest healthcare facility. Simultaneously, the bodies were dispatched for post-mortem examination. A thorough investigation into the circumstances of the accident has been initiated by the authorities.

While the precise cause of the collision remains undisclosed, Keonjhar SP Kusalkar Nitin Dagudu commented, "The van, carrying 20 passengers, was reportedly traveling at a high speed when it collided with the truck. Foggy conditions at the time may have obstructed the driver's visibility, contributing to the accident."

According to police reports, two families along with their neighbors embarked on their journey on Thursday night, November 30th, to seek blessings at Maa Tarini. The tragic incident unfolded around 5 am the following morning, marking a devastating turn of events for the families involved.
