Bangalore: A 50-year-old government employee associated with Karnataka’s Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation has tragically died by suicide, leaving behind a six-page suicide note detailing his alleged coercion into a Rs 187 crore fund misappropriation scheme. Chandrasekaran P, serving as a superintendent at the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation (KMVSTDC), was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his residence in Shivamogga on Sunday evening.

In the note, Chandrasekaran explicitly implicated two department officials, JG Padmanabha and Parashuram, the Managing Director and an accountant at the Scheduled Tribes Corporation, respectively. Additionally, he named Shuchita, the Chief Manager of the Union Bank of India branch in Bengaluru. Chandrasekaran accused his senior officers of harassment and coercion, alleging that they exploited him for the misappropriation of funds for personal gain.

According to police officials, Chandrasekaran disclosed that he was pressured by his colleagues to open a parallel bank account to divert unaccounted money from the corporation's funds. He claimed to have been directed by a minister and an officer to open a "sweep-in and sweep-out account" with the Union Bank, allowing the transfer of funds between savings and current accounts.

This tragic incident has sparked a political uproar in the state, with the BJP targeting the Congress government led by Siddaramaiah. BJP MLA Channabasappa from Shivamogga asserted that Chandrasekaran's suicide note revealed significant corruption involving government officials and a minister. Opposition leader R Ashoka labeled the Congress government as "murderous," accusing it of harassing the deceased officer in connection with a massive corruption scandal.

Karnataka BJP chief BY Vijayendra called for the immediate dismissal of Scheduled Tribes Welfare Department Minister B Nagendra from the cabinet and demanded a transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the officer's death.

Meanwhile, the police have registered an FIR against three government officials under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code for abetting suicide. Investigations into the case are ongoing.
