SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government has pledged to allocate Rs 1,484.72 crore in the Budget 2022-23 to the Health and Medical Education sector in a bid to provide accessible, affordable, and high-quality healthcare to the people of the state.
Jammu and Kashmir Govt is concurrently conducting health Melas, health plans, medical infrastructure, digitalization of health records, medical research collaborations with eminent academics, and successfully running the world's largest government-funded health insurance programme.
In December 2020, Prime Minister Modi introduced the Ayushman Bharat-SEHAT scheme, under which almost 1,000 patients in Jammu Kashmir apply for free IPD (Inpatient Department Care) therapy. Beneficiaries are given "gold cards," which are health insurance cards that can be used to receive free treatment at medical centres. So far, 60 lakh cards have been given, and at least one member of 16.36 lakh families has registered with SEHAT.
Every year, the scheme offers a family universal health coverage of Rs 5 lakh at empanelled public and private hospitals. The government spends Rs 1.7 crore per day to pay citizens' medical expenditures.
The SEHAT scheme has reached 100% coverage in the Samba district, making it the first in India. The State Health Agency identified 62,641 families with a total of 3,04,510 members who were eligible for golden cards. J&K's health revolution has propelled it to the top of the country's leading States/UTs. Two AIIMS, seven new medical colleges, two cancer institutes, ten new nursing colleges, 150 district/sub-district hospitals, and thousands of health and wellness facilities are among UT's forthcoming medical infrastructure.
