ISTANBUL: Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya revealed via social media platform X that authorities in Turkey have detained 189 individuals across 37 provinces due to suspected connections with the Islamic State group.

In response to heightened concerns following a recent bombing near government buildings in Ankara on October 1, Turkish authorities intensified their efforts against both Islamic State and Kurdish militants. The arrests were made through a collaborative operation involving the country’s intelligence agency and police forces, according to official statements.

This detention follows a previous crackdown, where 304 suspected ISIS militants were apprehended in coordinated raids throughout Turkey. The timing of these operations suggests a strategic security initiative leading up to the New Year celebrations.

Turkey has experienced a series of devastating attacks by ISIS, notably the tragic shooting at an Istanbul nightclub on January 1, 2017, claiming the lives of 39 people during New Year festivities. The recent arrests signify a concerted effort by Turkish authorities to combat and neutralize potential threats posed by extremist groups within the country.
