New Delhi: The microblogging platform Twitter deactivated the verified blue tick mark from the accounts of numerous well-known Indians, including Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, Pushkar Singh Dhami, and Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi.

Only individual Twitter users who pay for Twitter Blue, which costs USD 8 per month via the web and USD 11 per month via the in-app payment on iOS and Android, have verified blue checkmarks.
Priyanka Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath are the other politicians who have lost their blue tick.

Along with them, political groups including the Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also lost their verification badges.

Many B-town celebs, including Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Alia Bhatt, cricketers Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, among others, have lost their verified blue ticks from their Twitter accounts as a result of the most recent development.

Prior to Elon Musk's takeover, Twitter had previously announced that it would remove the verified check-mark status from accounts that were verified as noteworthy unless they had purchased Twitter Blue or the business-focused Twitter Verified Organisations plan, as per reports.

The blue tick was initially used to safeguard famous people from imitation and combat misleading information.
Twitter said earlier in March that they would start winding down their legacy verified programme and remove legacy verified checkmarks on April 1. People can sign up for Twitter Blue to keep their blue checkmark on Twitter.

In order to make it easier for users to tell which accounts "of public interest" on Twitter are legitimate and which are fake or parody accounts, Twitter originally launched the blue tick mark system in 2009. Previously, the business didn't charge for verification.

Within two weeks of the acquisition of the firm last year, Musk introduced Twitter Blue, which included the check-mark emblem as one of the deluxe benefits.
