Saturday, 2 died in an incident  when a lorry, carrying Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) liquor bottles, rammed a tree and caught fire at Vankaranpettai in this district, the police said.

The police said the lorry, carrying the state-run liquor outlet bottles for a unit at Tirubuvanam, was coming from Coimbatore when the driver lost control of the lorry which rammed into a roadside tree.

While the cleaner of the lorry died on the spot, the driver, who was pulled out by passers-by, died en route to hospital, the police added. The cleaner's charred body was recovered after fire force personnel doused the flames, the police said, adding, that the lorry was gutted.
