A 51-year-old teacher from a public school and a 51-year-old transport manager from a private school were both detained by the Polur all-female police in Tamil Nadu's Tiruvannamalai district on suspicion of sexually assaulting a four-year-old LKG girl student.

When the LKG student's parents sent her to Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore for treatment after she complained repeatedly of irritation in her private areas, the problem was discovered. The girl had experienced sexual assaults, the physicians found after an examination.

When her parents questioned her, the girl claimed that she had been sexually attacked by a math teacher at a nearby government higher secondary school who also happens to be the husband of the correspondent of the private school where she is enrolled. She said that the teacher had attacked her sexually twice.

The coeducational residential school is attended by more than 1,500 students.

The girl’s parents lodged a complaint with the Polur all-woman police. The police booked the teacher under sections 376AB (punishment for rape of woman under twelve years of age) of the Indian Penal Code and sections 5 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault), 5 (l) (whoever commits penetrative sexual assault on the child more than once or repeatedly), 5 (m) (whoever commits penetrative sexual assault on a child below twelve years) and 6 (punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, 2012 and arrested him on Sunday.

Initial inquiry with the teacher found that the transport-in-charge in the private school had also sexually attacked the girl. The transport-in-charge was detained by the police after being charged under the same IPC and Pocso sections.
