Bhubaneshwar: Due to the low wind pressure area over the Bay of Bengal due to heavy rains, flood-like conditions have arisen in many parts of Odisha on Sunday. Raw habitations were damaged, crops were damaged and 2 people died during this period. Officers gave this information. The weather center told that due to the formation of low pressure area in many parts of the state, there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rain till Monday. But, now this cyclone is getting weaker and it has moved towards Jharkhand and neighboring states.
Special Relief Commissioner PK Jena has told that 2 people of the same family have died in an incident of wall collapse on Saturday night in 1 village located in Patangarh block of Balangir district. He has further told that the news of casualties of someone else has not been reported from anywhere in the state. The weather center has predicted that another area of low air pressure over the Bay of Bengal is expected to be formed on August 19. Officials have told that due to heavy rains in the state, life has been disrupted in many areas including Malkangiri, Dhenkanal, Bhadrak and Cuttack Distircts. Road contact of many villages from the rest of the state has been broken.
Malkangiri District Magistrate Marish Agarwal has further told in this case that the culvert has been submerged at many places in the district, due to which the road contact has been temporarily interrupted. The District Magistrate further informed that some houses have been reported damaged in Chitrakonda and Kalimela blocks. He further said that about 34 villages have been affected due to heavy rains.
