New Delhi: Two pilots who accidentally hit the Indian Air Force (IAF) missile on Republic Day will be awarded posthumously gallantry awards. It is noteworthy that on the morning of 27 February, the Mi-17 helicopter was accidentally targeted by a surface-to-air missile of the Indian Air Force in Budgam, Kashmir.

The helicopter's pilot squadron leader Siddharth Vashisht and squadron leader Ninad Mandavgane will be posthumously awarded the gallantry medal. Four other crew members - Flight Engineer Vishal Kumar Pandey, Sergeant Vikrant Sehrawat, Corporal Deepak Pandey and Pankaj Kumar will also be posthumously awarded 'Mention in Dispatch'.

Let us tell you that this incident happened when the fight was going on in Indian and Pakistani fighter plane in Nowshera, a day after the Indian Air Force attack on the terrorist training camp of terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed in Balakot, Pakistan. The President has approved the award of Param Vishisht Sena Medal to six top Air Force officers including Air Marshal Harjit Singh Arora, Deputy Chief of Air Force. In addition to Ninad Mandavgane and Siddharth Vashistha, Wing Commander Daler Singh Billin, Wing Commander Rajesh Agarwal have also been awarded the Air Force (Bravery), Medal.
