“From day one of his appointment (as youth wing secretary) on July 4, 2019, a section of seniors have not welcomed his appointment and they have aired their displeasure at any chance. To convince them and to prove his mettle, Udhayanidhi has conducted various programmes,” a Chennai based DMK  functionary said. Udhayanidhi has organised some protests for the welfare of students and youth. This clearly shows the grumblings among senior party members over his growing influence and the opportunity to wield the ‘dynastic politics’ charge against DMK.

The DMK leadership has decided to send Udhayanidhi on a statewide campaign and tour to highlight the issues of young voters. 2016 election difference was only 1.1% between DMK and ADMK. DMK hopes to attract the youths who contribute nearly 50% voters.  With the youth accounting for nearly 50 percent of voters in TN, the party hopes attracting them in large numbers so that the ten year away from power will come to end.
The party believes the state wide campaign will yield good results evident from 2016 elections. In 2016 Assembly polls DMK has won 89 seats against just 23 in 2011. Highlighting youth problems, the youth wing secretary Udhyanidhi Stalin will carry out the state wide campaign 'Namaku Naame 2.0'.
