London: According to the latest official numbers, the United Kingdom (UK) registered 37,243 new Covid-19 infections, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 9,637,190.

According to sources, there were reportedly 214 deaths caused by the coronavirus in the country. The overall number of deaths caused by the coronavirus in the United Kingdom has now reached 143,159. Only persons who died within 28 days after their initial positive test are included in this death toll. There are now 8,696 Covid-19 patients in hospitals.

The latest figures were released as a study revealed that the NHS is facing the "worst difficult winter in its history," with over 90 percent of hospital trust leaders expressing "grave worry." While cases of Covid-19 are "far below" their peak in January, some trusts are "beyond full stretch," said the NHS Providers, which conducted the survey. It is encouraging the government to provide monetary bonuses of around 500 pounds  to prevent social care workers from leaving for jobs in "hospitality, supermarkets, or internet corporations like Amazon." According to the latest numbers, almost 88 percent of persons aged 12 and up in the UK have received their first dose of vaccination, and more than 80 percent have had both doses. Booster shots, or the third dosage of a coronavirus vaccine, have been given to about 23 percent of people.
