KIEV, Ukraine – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with visiting British Prime Minister Boris Johnson in Kiev on Tuesday to discuss security matters, including Russia's military buildup along the Ukrainian border, according to the presidential press office.
Zelensky and Johnson reportedly issued a joint statement following their conversations, warning that any further Russian aggression in Ukraine would be a huge strategic error with a high humanitarian cost.
Ukraine and the United Kingdom have decided to work closely to boost Ukraine's security and defence capabilities, according to the leaders. They also underlined their commitment to bolstering Ukraine's energy security and supporting the country's efforts to make the transition to a green economy.
Although he does not endorse all of the principles of the Minsk agreements, Zelensky stated during the press conference following the negotiations that it is the "only format that works." "We need to do something to de-occupy our regions in particular, and in some way protect our state," Zelensky stated.
He also stated that the United Kingdom will set aside 2 billion pounds ($2.7 billion) for cooperative infrastructure and energy projects with Ukraine. Johnson, for one, said that the UK will send an additional 88 million pounds (about $119 million) to Ukraine to help it lessen its dependency on Russian energy imports.
